Born: In 1877 in Whitchurch, Shropshire.

Family: He was one of seven children born to Allen and Ann Green (nee Woodward). He married Agnes Berry in 1903; no children can be traced for the marriage.

Residence: In 1881 he was living in Ash Parva with his parents and siblings; in 1891 he was boarding in Coton, Wem, Shropshire. Some time between 1891 and 1901 the family moved to Bury, Lancashire where Joseph met and married his future wife; in 1901 he was serving in South Africa.

Employment: He was a wireman for a telephone company when he enlisted.

Died: In 1930, aged 52, in Bury.
