Born:    8 March 1881 in Peckham, London. However he was not baptised until 6 December 1894 at St. Alphege Parish Church, Canterbury, Kent. By this time his mother had died.

Family:  He was the second child born to Josiah Denman, a stonemason and his wife Emma, nee Palmer. He married Bessie Mulliner in 1903 in Whitchurch, Shropshire. The couple had five children.

Residence:    At the time of his birth in 1881 his family were living at 2 Philip Street, Camberwell, London. Ten years later he was living with an uncle in Bears Court Lane, Canterbury, Kent. At the time of his discharge from the army in 1902 he gave his address as 32 Wrexham Road, Whitchurch, Shropshire.

Employment:    His occupation at the time of his Attestation in 1901 was an upholsterer.

Death: 11 June 1943 in Whitchurch and buried at Whitchurch Cemetery on 15 June the same year, aged 62.
