Born: In 1882 in Whitchurch, Shropshire.

Family: He was one of one of six children born to John and Emma Bithell. He married Eliza Jane Morris in 1903 and together they had two children born in Manchester.

Residence: In 1881 his parents and siblings were living in Ravens Yard, Whitchurch; by 1891 and after John’s birth they had moved to Newtown Street, Whitchurch. In 1901 he was living at 5 Railway Inn Yard, Station Road, Whitchurch with his sister and her family. By 1911 he and his wife appear to have moved to Bradford area of Manchester.

Employment: In 1901 he was a general labourer.
