Born: 6 March 1871 in Whitchurch, Shropshire and would appear to have been baptised at St Alkmund’s Church, Whitchurch on 23 January 1877

Family: He was one of nine children born to John and Mary Ellen Burgess. In 1902 he married Emily Percival Lewis and together they had one son

Residence: In 1871 and 1881 he was living at the Fox and Goose, Green End, Whitchurch where his father was the publican. In 1891 he was boarding at 3 Barker Street, Shrewsbury, Shropshire. After returning from the Boer War, in 1901 he lived at 14 Richmond Terrace, Station Road, Whitchurch

Employment: He was a draper when he enlisted.

Death: 10 November 1924 in Coonor, Madras, India.
