Family: He was one of nine children born to John and Mary Ellen Burgess. No marriage can be traced for William

Residence: In 1871 and 1881 he was living at the Fox and Goose, Green End, Whitchurch where his father was the publican. In 1891 he was serving in South Africa. After returning from the Boer War, in 1901 he lived at 14 Richmond Terrace, Station Road, Whitchurch

Employment: He was an auctioneer when he enlisted

Death: 17 May 1958, aged 91, at Clifton Nursing Home, Whitchurch and was buried in Whitchurch cemetery on 21 May the same year.
