Other information: John had served in India prior to the Boer War. During the Boer War he was dangerously wounded at Reit Vlei on 16 July 1900. 

Born: 7 December 1874 in Ash, Shropshire

Family: He was one of five children born to Thomas and Ann Chatterton. John married Mary Jane Evanson in November 1905 in Saltney, Cheshire. Together they had four children.

Residence: In 1881 he was living in Whitchurch Road, Ash Magna, Shropshire with his parents and siblings. By 1891 he had moved to Leycett, Madeley, Staffordshire boarding with his father at the home of his sister Emma and brother-in-law Charles. At the time of the 1901 Census he was on military service

Employment: He was a waggoner when he enlisted

Death: 1954 in Whitchurch, Shropshire, aged 79
