Born: In 1875 in Whitchurch, Shropshire and baptised on 18 July the same year in St. Alkmund’s Parish Church, Whitchurch

Family: He was one of eight children born to William Sandford Cooke and his wife Emma. In 1910 he married Elizabeth Jane Winnicott in Johannesburg, South Africa. Three years later they had a daughter Violet Elizabeth Golby Cooke who was born in Salisbury, Rhodesia.

Residence: From his baptism until at least 1891 he was living with his parents and siblings in Rosemary Lane, Whitchurch. At the time of the 1901 Census he was living with his brother at 35 Liverpool Road, St Helens, Lancashire.

Employment: He was a saddler prior to enlisting

Died: Probably 9 June 1939 in Salisbury, Rhodesia
