Born: 30 June 1879 in Malpas, Cheshire and baptised 17 August the same year in St. Oswald’s Church, Malpas, Cheshire.

Family: He was one of eleven children born to Thomas and Catherine (Kate) Edge (nee Starkey). He married Agnes Mary Nevitt on 9 May 1905 in Marbury, Cheshire and together they had six children.

Residence: According to both the 1881 and 1891 census he lived in Bickley, Cheshire with his parents and siblings. On 1st April 1901 the family were living at Brook Cottage, Norbury and although Walter was listed at this address he had enlisted the week before

Employment: He was a railway engine fireman when he enlisted.

Died: 7th April 1974 aged 95 and his death was registered in June 1974 in the Congleton and Crewe area. Walter’s home address was Shavington, Cheshire
