Family: No family information is known.

Residence: In 1881 he was living in the Union Workhouse, Whitchurch. A contemporary newspaper article suggests that he was brought up by the Guardians of the Workhouse.

Employment: He was apprenticed to Mr Maddocks of Hadley, a farmer on Wrexham Road, Whitchurch. William completed his indentures before enlisting.

Death: 27 August 1900 in Howick Civic Hospital, KwaZulu-Natal Province, South Africa.

Other information: Left a legacy to Whitchurch workhouse
