Born: In 1871 in Tallarn Green, Flintshire, Wales and known as George.

Family: He was one of seven children born to Walter and Mary Jane Hales (nee Large). He married Gertrude Emily Wallace in 1902 and together they had two children.

Residence: In 1881 he was living at Belmarsh, Middle, Ellesmere, Shropshire with his parents and siblings. In 1891 George was serving with the military in India and in 1901 in South Africa.

Employment: He was a labourer when he enlisted. By 1911 he was a police constable

Death: 10 September 1931 in West Felton, Oswestry, Shropshire.
