Other information: John was listed in a newspaper article as being recruited in January 1902. He may not have actually been deployed as no Boer War service records can be located. Born: 27 September 1879 in Whitchurch, Shropshire and baptised on 7 October 1880 in the Wesleyan Methodist Chapel, Whitchurch.
Family: He was the second of six children born to Thomas Malam, a bricklayer’s labourer, and his wife Caroline. He married Annie Edge on 2 September 1903 in Marbury Parish Church and together they had three children.
Residence: In 1881 he was living with his family in Barkhill, Whitchurch. By 1891 the family had moved to 3 Mill Street, Whitchurch and were still residing at the same address in 1901.
Employment: According to census returns he worked as a bricklayer.
Death: 27 January 1964 in Crewe, Cheshire, aged 84.
