Other information: John’s brother Arthur died serving in WW1. Another brother, George, had emigrated to Canada by 1914 and served with the Canadian Expeditionary Force.

Born: 24 November 1874 in Whitchurch, Shropshire and was baptised on 6 January 1875 in St. Alkmund’s Parish Church, Whitchurch

Family: He was the second of six children born to Thomas and Mary Ann Nunnerley. No marriage has been traced for John.

Residence: He was living in Bradley Green, Wirswall, Whitchurch up to the time he enlisted for the Boer War.

Employment: He was a farmer, taking over his father’s farm when he died

Death: 7 April 1922 in Whitchurch, aged 47, and was buried on 10 April that year in Whitchurch cemetery.

Other information: After the Boer War, John returned to South Africa. His father’s death brought him back to the UK some time before 1911.
