Family: He was one of eight children born to Noah and Sarah Porter. William married Susan Humphreys on 20 February 1887; no children can be identified for the marriage.
Residence: In 1871 he lived near Parkview, Newhall, Wrenbury, Cheshire with his parents and siblings; in 1881 he was lodging at 46-47 Jermyn Street, London. In 1891 he was living in Park Lane, Reigate, Surrey with his wife; by 1901 they had moved to 36 Mount Street, Wrexham, Flintshire, Wales. In 1902 he listed his intended place of residence as Regent Street, Hinkley, Leicestershire – the home of his father.
Employment: He was a butcher when he enlisted.
Death: 20 December 1949, aged 88, at the Maelor General Hospital, Wrexham and was buried on 23 December the same year.
