Born:  In 1880 in Atcham, Shrewsbury, Shropshire.

Family: He was the eldest of two children born to George Rogers, a professor of music, and his wife Sarah Ann (nee Reynolds). He married Florence Mabel Hilton on 23 August 1904 in Standerton, Mpumalanga, South Africa and together they had six children, one of whom died in infancy.

Residence:  In 1881 he was living with his parents and maternal grandparents at 4 Abbey Foregate, Shrewsbury; by 1891 they had moved to The Duke of York, Willow Street, Oswestry, Shropshire where his mother was the publican. In 1901 he was serving in South Africa and his parents were living at 3 Edgeley Road (probably called Edgeley Villa), Whitchurch, Shropshire. After the Boer War George settled in South Africa living there for the rest of his life.

Employment:   He was a musician, although his military discharge papers say he was a tailor. George had served a 5 year apprenticeship to E J Howell & Sons, Whitchurch, tailors and outfitters.

Death: 27 March 1946 at Benoni Hospital, Boksburg, Transvaal, South Africa, aged 66
