Other information: John was severely wounded on 7 August 1901 at Konisberg. He re-enlisted in 1914 and served the duration of WW1 – more information can be found on our Great War site.

Born: 29 November 1881 in Whitchurch, Shropshire and baptised 15 March 1882 in St. Alkmund’s Parish Church, Whitchurch.

Family: He was one of six children born to William and Ann Stockton. He married Ada Jones on 14 February 1906 in Nantwich, Cheshire and together they had five children.

Residence: At the time of his baptism, the family were living in Castle Hill, Whitchurch; by 1891 they had moved to Smallbrook Buildings, West End, Whitchurch.

Employment: He was an engine cleaner when he enlisted.

Death: In 1940 in Chester Royal Infirmary, aged 58, and was buried on 6 July the same year in Whitchurch cemetery.
