Born: In 1868 in Whitchurch, Shropshire and baptised on 8 October 1869 in St. Alkmund’s Parish Church, Whitchurch.
Family: He was one of six children born to James and Harriet Williams. He married Sarah Agnes McCluskey (nee Darlington) on 8 December 1894 in the Parish Church, Ashton under Lyne, Lancashire. They had one son together; Richard had one step daughter from Sarah’s previous marriage.
Residence: At the time of his baptism he was living with his parents and siblings in Green End, Whitchurch; the family continued to live at this address until at least 1881. In 1901, and now married, Richard was living at 7 Hodgson Street, Ashton under Lyne.
Employment: He was a labourer when he enlisted.
Death: In 1926 in Ashton-under-Lyne, aged 57.
