The 14th (King's) Hussars fought in the Boer War (1899-1902) taking part in the Relief of Kimberley (1900) and several other operations. The Regiment participated in all the battles leading up to the Relief of Ladysmith (14-27 September 1900) when they were part of General Sir Redvers Buller's army that forced Louis Botha's Boers to lift their siege of the town. The 1st Battalion left Southampton in the Nubia on 22 October and arrived in Cape Town just over three weeks later.
